Actually the 2.5L engine is a 5 cylinder…not a 4 cylinder. One of the major problems Volkswagen had with the last Jetta was build cost. They had to do alot of sacrifices with this car to bring the cost down for us greedy Americans. Too bad! This car could be better.
a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine? that is not available. how can you report on a car and not even know what kind of engine it has? you lose all credibility. come on, get it right.
Why are they still making these cars with the 2.5L motor? I would like to see the newer 1.8TSi (160hp+) replace this or the 2.0tdi 170hp. And as an entry level engine, they could go with the basic 1.4TSI 122hp not a 2.0i 115hp (too old). The 1.4tsi 122hp has more torque and is way better on fuel. If they make the engines in this more modern and up to date, I might actually think of selling my 2007 Audi A4 2.0T for one of these.
@StuinthaHouse That’s what I am concerned about…115hp in the base engine? The Civic’s 1.8 I4 squeezes out 140 and probably gets better MPG. I have an 06 Civic and I sometimes wish I had paddle shifters to give the car a little more “oomph” when needed. I can only imagine how this larger vehicle will manage with 115. It’s a great exterior design, though. I’m excited about the next gen Civic due out next year…
The 2.5 is stil a 5-cylinder, right? He said it’s a four, but unless it’s a new motor, it’ll be a five, as before. VW is getting cheap when it comes to content. Only eight years ago, you could get an automatic climate control system. That option wasn’t even available on the 2005-2010 Jetta, including on top-of-the-line SEL and Wolfsburg models. I wish Volkswagen would bring back some these items. Things like a souped-up stereo and auto-climate gave the Jetta a “secret luxury car” feel.
Looks good, i love the front end. I also like the classic vw interior look i’m glad they kept it looking good. What is this nonsense people are talking about with it having 115 hp? That 2.5 has 170 and i’m not sure what the 2.0 turbo has, is that the one with 115 hp?
@JELH
Even the ugly North American Ford Focus is more appealing for that price. Thankfully the next generation will be the International model and looks very promising.
115hp in a compact sedan just isn’t right anymore. That kind of power rating is more at home in the Sub-compact class. I don’t think this new Jetta will be able to compete very well with the current Corolla, Civic or the forth coming Cruze from Chevy.
In order to make the 2011 Jetta cheaper, VW had to cut some corners. Goodbye rear independent MultiLink suspension is gone, hello again rear torsion bar. But the worst news, however, is the return of the Two.Slow 8 valve 115 hp engine.
The 2.0 8V couldn’t barely move the fourth generation Jetta, let alone the 2011 model. Besides, 16k for an slow 115 hp car? I’m sorry, but for 16k, even the Toyota Corolla is more appealing.

I think the rear looks like a 2009 Kia Optima And the tail light are almost the same too. But I real like how it looks though.

@UInACrash agreed
The old taillamps look better but the new car’s front end looks alot better…
I hate itouch’s autocorrection. Sorry for the typing mistakes on the message below
The 115hp is the worst envine VW could put into this wonderful call. VW tale moré care if the volumen of the sales instead of the quality of the product. Capitalism, no?
@StuinthaHouse
power isnt everything.
@Windgrace Germans always have something good, so I wouldn’t be to concerned, remember it’s a city car, not a Mustang GT.

I like the 2002 volkswagen jetta then this one.
@Declipse16 They’re offering the 2.0 115-hp on the base model. The 2.0T generally has 200 HP. The 2.0T will probably be the third engine choice.
